Tips to improve your memory

Oscar Wilde said “Memory is the diary we all carry about with us”. But some people’s diaries are more accurate than others. That is not a flaw. That is how nature intends us to be. However, as students, not having the best memory can be a disadvantage. It is important to be able to keep what we study in our memories and recall those when needed. A good memory is essential for students to perform well in academics. There is nothing to worry about. If you think your memory is not as good as it should be, we are here to help. As the best CBSE affiliated School in Kolkata, we have some pointers that can help you improve your memory.

Work on your working memory

It is a fact that on average, humans can only retain around seven things at a time in their working memory. To maximise their capacity, one strategy can be to write things down. This way, we don’t have to keep a lot of information in our memory. Often it is not possible to have access to a pen or paper to note things down, in that case using acronyms, chunking the information together or creating silly sentences to remember complex information can help.

Revision matters

When we are revising for our exams, as the best CBSE School in Kolkata, we have noticed that students often tend to cram up everything for last minute. Avoiding cramming up of revision sessions and spacing it out can be helpful as you don’t have to store a lot of information in your memory in the last moment but have the time to slowly work on it, feeding the mind bit by bit.

Ask ‘why’

It is always better if you ask questions when you are studying rather than just simply reading the sentences. If you ask ‘why’ this happened and are inquisitive to know about the answer, studies show that you are more likely to retain more information than if you are just trying to mug up the information without understanding the context.

Nurture your brain

Like any other living organism, your brain also needs nurturing to perform better and develop. Taking care of your brain is very important. Make sure you get enough sleep, at least 8 hours during the night. Make sure you go to bed early and wake up early. Drink plenty of water. Avoid spending too much time on the screen. These simple tricks will help improve your mood, concentration and memory.

As the best CBSE School in Kolkata, we ensure our students get the best training and mentoring and are prepared to take on any challenge that they might confront in their lives. We promote holistic development of the child and never just focus on momentary results. To know more about us, jpsedu.in/contact.php
